22 Years young - Paranoid - Police Chief - 6'4 - Single
------------------------ The sun was just beyond the horizon when Alexs dark red near black Dodge ram pulled up to his cabin. A heavy sigh escaped vocals as the young man stepped from within the cab, after killing the ignition. Another long and boring day at the police station, another day full of paper work. He was glad to be home though, home to where his best friend was waiting for him just beyond the front door. Keys jingled and the leather belt around his waist shifted as he slammed the trucks door and took the first step towards the house. A faint smile spread across the emerald eyed mans face as he knew just beyond was a happy dog waiting to make his day better. Pushing the key into the lock he turned it before pushing the door open and chuckling. “Easy boy.” He murmured as Mingo his dog greeted him. Shuffling past he paused at the coat rack where he always put his belt - minus the gun obviously - and unbuckled it. Once the gun was out of its holster he hung the belt up before heading towards his bedroom and gun safe.
He was well aware of the multi colored dog trailing him as he moved into their bedroom and put away his glock, before sinking down onto the bed with a low sigh. ”It has been a long day Mingeto.” He murmured while his hand brushed over the solid head. ”Bet you wanna go for a run huh boy?” Alex murmured with a teasing grin before he stood and headed towards the living room. Even though he was exhausted he would do anything for his Mingo.

She couldn't believe that it had only been a month since she had come to this place and already she had to call in the Chief of Police. She was concerned about a certain old man who came in with his dog every Saturday night and once drunk he would beat his dog out and anyone else who got in his way. She had tried to settle it herself, and a few other bar patrons but she hadn't gotten anywhere and she had no choice but to involve the police. She hadn't been able to catch Chief Duff at the police station but she was kindly directed to his house. It was a bit awkward for her, going to his house when she hadn't ever properly met him. But she wasn't going to let that man beat anyone, not even the dog. So she drove up to the nice looking cabin, taking in the black dodge by the cabin.
She parked her own dark red jeep just behind the ram before climbing out. Normally Oralie would be with her but she had left her behind, not wanting to have Oralie running all over the place while she tried to talk to the Chief. Getting out she pushed her thick curls over her shoulder and walked up to the door. The air was getting cooler and she pulled the jacket onto her more securely before raising a small fist to knock on the door. She waited a moment before knocking lightly again. She didn't want to appear insistent but she didn't want to wait until Saturday to have to call the police in. She'd rather have it dealt with outside of her pub so that there wasn't any disturbances during the night. The door opened and Jensen looked up, a soft smile on her face as she braced herself to face the Chief.

------------------------ Alex hadn’t heard the car pull up into his yard as he’d been upstairs at the back of the cabin in his bedroom. However when he stood and Mingeto bolted down the stairs like his tail was on fire, barking his deep timbered bark he used for when there was someone here….well he figured someone was here. Shaking his head at Mingos antics he followed at a more sedate pace, only midway down the stairs before he heard the second knock. ”I’m Comin‘!” He called in his southern drawl coming out thick in his exhaustion. One hand was lifted to rub at emerald eyes as he moved down the last few steps and towards the door where Mingo was still parked barking at the door. ”’nough boy.” Though it sounded grumbled the tone its self got the usually stubborn minded Pitbull to shush and glance back at his master. Though he knew there was no need for it, Alex reached down with one hand and lead Mingo from the doorway. ”Stay.” He commanded shooting to multi hued dog a stern look before he moved back to the door.
Upon opening the door he found himself dumbfounded for a moment. Here on his doorstep was one of the newer faces to town, and while he was curious as to what had brought her here he offered her a slight smile in return. ”Evenin’ Miss. May I help you?” Oh yes Alex made it his job to know everyones face, and in most cases their names. However all he knew about this lady before him was that she was the owner to the pub, after the previous owner passed away. Family member perhaps? He didn’t remember seeing the pub go up forsale.

And when the door did swing open she was not expecting Alex to look like that at all. She had been expecting older, more grey hair and definately not those vivid green eyes. She studied his thick brown hair, strong facial features, and those oh so bright green eyes before realizing she was staring slightly. A blush came to her pale cheeks and his words brought a hesitant smile to her face. "I'm sorry for showing up here without a call, I tried stopping by the station but you'd already left" Her eyes flickered to the inside of the house, seeing a rather handsome dog hovering near the doorway. The inside of the house was rather nice but she didn't want to appear as if she was snooping so her eyes flicked back to the Chief's face. A handsome face at that.
"Ah, I actually need to discuss a problem at my pub, I was hoping to get it taken care of." She bit her bottom lip as she wondered if this would be a bad time for him. She hadn't meant to come when he was off work, but she was concerned not only for her patrons, but for her dog Oralie. The man had taken a swing at her and that was the last straw. NO ONE struck her dog and so a problem that was going to be taken care of the next day became immediate and urgent. "I'd really like to get it figured out today, it's important" She crossed her arms, the chill in the air making her seek warmth, but also her own nervousness. She hadn't meant to disturb him and she didn't want to make the wrong impression on the Chief. "Could I come in?" She offered with a soft smile.

------------------------ Alex couldn’t help but chuckle when she blushed after staring at him, it was a reaction he was used to. No one expected the chief to be a twenty two year old man, and then some commented on his eyes. He knew they were brighter then others eyes, something his cousin teased him about often.. Not like she could talk with her striking dark blue eyes. He shifted slightly once he realized she was speaking, and wondered what problem could cause her to come track him down at his house. “Its no problem, Miss.“ He replied with a shake of his head, realizing he didn’t know her name. A slight breeze drifted through the doorway and he shifted to the side ”Please come in.” He’d wait for her to step inside before shutting the door and leading the way to the living room. ”Make ya self comfortable.” He murmured before moving towards his favorite chair. It was a dark green straight back, that sat off to the side of his matching couch.
Alex watched as Mingeto trailed in after them and took up post at his side, eying the lady wearily. Lifting a hand he placed it on Mingos head, stroking the dog before letting it rest on his side. ”What seems to be the problem at your pub?” Obviously it was important if she was willing to track him down at home. He didn’t know many that would, because his mere appearance and size tended to make him more intimidating then he really was. Glancing down at the whine he stroke the dogs side ”Shh, Mingeto.” Normally Mingo was fine with humans, though it was understandable he was confused as to why this lady was in their home. ------------------------ Word Count: 289 Song: Hurt - Johnny cash Notes:

---------
Mingo shifted where his master had put him, trying to peer around the doorway to see who was there. It was not a scent he recognized and thus made him iffy. Were they friend or foe? Please come in He heard his master say before shifting out of the doorway. When the young woman entered he stood, inching closer to his master while gaze remained locked on this stranger. The door closed then and daddy was leading the woman into the living room, he followed behind the stranger before taking up post at his fathers side. Tail wagged as daddy petted him before addressing the woman, a problem? A low whine escaped vocals and daddy automatically moved to soothe him, his attention remained on the lady though. Limbs heaved multi-hued frame upwards as he inched towards the stranger. Nostrils inhaled her scent and that of … a dog? This made him creep closer, sniffing at her legs and feet before he attempted to nudge her hand. Pet me! --------- What Do I Gotta Do To Make You Care I'm Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word

He was rather easy going with the whole situation and Jensen was rather pleased with the way that her Chief was turning out to be. When he ushered her inside she gladly took a step past the threshold and let her gaze wander throughout the house. It wasn't bad, usually men who lived alone weren't so...decorative? Neat? Either way she liked it and when he ushered her into the living room she sat down on the nearest furniture, her butt planted on the edge of the couch, nearest to the chair. "Oh, how rude of me, my name is Jensen Diardo, I moved here a few months back" It was odd, being so close to him even though she had literally just met him. Even more so that she was sitting on his couch. But when he asked what she had come to him about her easy smile left and a thin, serious line remained.
She rested her elbows on her knees as she leaned towards him, instantly all business. "Well, you know Ronnie Brigot right? Well, we've been having troubles with him." She frowned and was slightly comforted by the dog who insisted on being pet. She ran a hand over his head, scratching behind his ears briefly. "He's gotten drunk every Saturday for the past two weeks and each time he threatens the people in my Pub and thier animals." Her voice held an icy anger as she spoke of the troubles she had been having lately. "He's been especially cruel on his dog." She offered quietly, she hated seeing the man hurt the dog and the ONLY reason she hadn't called the police last saturday was because he had been escorted out. But not before he left a nice sized bruise on her wrist where he had grabbed at her. She leaned forward again, moving her hands away from the dog to show Alex.
Her sleeves were pushed back and she revealed the bruises on both her wrists, that looked very much like hand-prints. "This needs to be taken care of before someone other than me and his dog gets hurt." Her steely blue eyes leveled with his own vivid green eyes. The bruises were beginning to darken, to turn purple and black, ugly and very very tender. She was tense again, like she had been that night. If Mark hadn't been there to wrestle him off her Ronnie would have done more damage than good. She dearly hoped he could do something about it.

------------------------ Alex couldn’t help but grin to himself when Mingo went up to Jensen - as she just said her name was - and demanded to be pet. He found relief in this not only because it showed Mingo liked the girl - and lets face it, Mingo had a good judge of character - but it seemed to relax her as well. ”Pleased to meet you, Jensen. You can call me Alex.” Normally he would have thrown on the charm but this time he could sense she was here on business and not pleasure. So for now the charm remained chained in the closet, so to speak. He watched as her demeanor changed from open and friendly to stiff and business like and he made a mental note about that. Least she knew when it was time for joking and time for business. However he himself tensed as soon as she mentioned the town drunks name, a grimace issued as he thought about his first run in with the man. He’d run into Ronnie his first day in town, and the man had made the mistake of kicking at Mingo. Something Alex didn’t tolerate in the least. It was also one reason he accepted when they offered him the promotion to chief despite his young age. He could hire people that wouldn’t be afraid to put people like Ronnie in jail.
”I’ve had the displeasure of meeting Mr. Brigot.” Oh if only they took the R out of his name. He was about to ask what he’d been doing when she volunteered the information herself. Alex listened with his posture tensing ever so slightly at the news Mr. Brigot had taken to beating his own dog. Alex did not tolerate animal abuse, and if he could have things his way anyone that abused a dog would be taken out and lynched. However it was not up to him - sadly - so he could only throw the people in jail, fine them or take their animals away. However as she pulled her sleeves up to show her bruises it was all he could do to keep his calm exterior. Inside he was imagining ways to torture mr Brigot without leaving evidence that he did it. A smirk ghosted across lips before he checked his expression. ”Thank you for informing me of this matter. Do you wish to press charges on Mr. Brigot for assault?” If she did it’d give him a reason to go arrest the bastard tonight and have something to hold him on. ”I assume there were witnesses to these events?” If only so Mr. Brigot couldn’t claim she was lying.

She smiled as he offered up his name, instead of having her call him Chief Duff. It brought a sense of ease to her that was hard to place. That he would be that personal with her when he didn't even know who she was or what she wanted. And she did not miss the grimace when she spoke Ronnie's name. Good, someone else shared her disgust with the drunken man. After he got a good look at her wrists she hid them back under her sleeves and resumed stroking the dogs head. She offered up a small smile at his words about meeting Mr. Brigot and her eyes flicked away. She could still feel the pressure of his hands on her and it made a shiver run down her spine. She hoped she never have to deal with this man again, and if she judged Alex right, then he'd help make sure of that.
She didn't see any difference in his face when he had glanced at her bruises but there was the slight tense she sensed from the man. Jensen was good at figuring out how a person felt, it made it easier to talk to others, to figure out whether they just want a drink and to be left alone, or if they wanted company. It made her pub popular and thats just want she wanted. But right now she wanted only to help Alex serve justice. When he spoke of charges she couldn't help but grimace, her face going into a sharp line. Yes, I would and I'd like to instigate an animal abuse investigation. That poor dog needs to get out of there." Her hand kept a steady rythm on the dogs head, but her other hand tightened as she replayed the scene at the bar.
His next question made her smile ruefully and raise a delicate eyebrow. "About half the town of Minneola and thier dogs. I doubt you'll have a hard time finding them" She hoped that man rotted in hell. And just as suddenly she wished it was Oralie that her fingers were gently petting. Her thick sikly hair was a big comfort, more so than the short hair of the dog before her. He was handsome and he calmed her nerves, but nothing could compare to her Oralie. She looked up at Alex and for a moment wondered, how did such a handsome man become stuck in this lonely, desolate place? Something told her it wasn't just the town that was lonely. She offered up a small smile before looking down at the dog. "And what a handsome man you got here" She spoke to the dog, not really sure if she was talking about the dog or the man.
She scratched behind his ears for a few moments before looking up at Alex. "He's seems to be a very well-behaved gentlemen." She still had a stiffness to her, but she was trying not to let all of this overwhelm her. The thought of that man hurting not only the dog but anyone else drove fear into her heart. She had been so afraid when he had grabbed her, her angry shouts were brought out in panic and not of bravery. She didn't want anyone messing around in her pub, but she put up a front that instantly crumbled when he laid his hands on her. She hoped it would never happen again.

22 Years young - Paranoid - Police Chief - 6'4 - Single
------------------------ He watched her reaction to his statement that yes he had met Mr. Brigot. A slight frown crossed his expression before he pulled his mask back into place once again. Any man that would lay hands on a woman or a dog - well any animal - was below scum in his book and needed to be put in their place. He had watched for years helpless as his father beat not only him but his mother as well. It had made his dislike for men like his father even greater then usual for any decent man. He didn’t know any guy that was half way decent that would sit by and watch a women be struck if they could help her. He shook his head mentally, forcing himself away from such thoughts and back onto the subject at hand. It would do them no good if his memories of childhood caused his temper to rise. If he let it well he couldn’t be responsible for what he did with Mr. Brigot which…would not end well for himself. He knew rationally he should approach mr. brigot with a level head because the man would try his patience but at the moment he didn’t care. It was bad enough when he’d heard her words of the mans abuse towards his dog - something Alex was tempted to castrate the bastard for - but to put his hands on her? Well that just ticked him off more.
A deep breath was in hailed silently as she spoke, confirming that yes she wished to press charges on the man and wanted an animal cruelty investigation started. He was already planning on that one, for while they may live in Alaska and most the dogs were working dogs it was no excuse to be cruel. Her response about the witnesses amused him because he knew it was most likely true. Hell Minneola only had one pub, and a lot of people went there to unwind after work. ”I’m sure I won’t. If you follow me to the station we can get things started on this problem.” He watched as she continued to pet Mingo who had his head resting on her lap. He smirked to himself as Mingo attempted to lick her hand when she commented on what a handsome man he was…or so he assumed she was talking about Mingo.
He could agree with that, he adored Mingo and not only because he was such a handsome dog. Mingo despite his issues with other dogs, was his best friend. He’d brought the dog with him from his previous home in Florida when he moved here. The dog had been through hell and back with him and didn’t seem any worse for wear because of it. Some may find it odd that he considered a dog to be his best friend, but well when you’d been through what they had you would too. Mingo was loyal and protective, as well as obedient…when he wanted to be.
Her comment about Mingo being well behaved pulled him from his thoughts. ”He is, when he wants to be. He can be a bit of a stubborn headed brat.” He teased, smirking at both the dog and Jensen. A low chuckle ripped from his throat as Mingo glanced at him and let out a snort as if he disagreed with his statement. ”Don’t deny it boy. You’re as thick headed as I am.” If not more. A low grumble came from Mingo though it was not a growl, causing him to be even more amused. ”I swear he understands me sometimes.”

He didn't reply to her handsome comment and Jensen wondered, was it because there was nothing to say or because he wasn't sure who she was talking about? She smiled down at Mingeto as he licked her hand and she couldn't help but pull the dog's head into a soft hug. "I wish I would have brought Oralie, I bet you too would get along famously" She offered up as she gave a side ways glance at Alex. A soft, sad smile came to her face as her gaze fell back to the dog at hand. Oralie had been given to her as a puppy two years ago before her brother died. She was named after Jensen, but it was her brother that named the small husky pup. "I usually take her everywhere, but I wasn't sure whether she'd behave while she was here, she's a bit energetic" She smiled up at Alex, taking in his handsome features once again.
His offer to go to the station was a sensible one and she nodded her head, but didn't get up because of the dog's head in her lap. She was content to scratch the dogs ear, softly rubbing the soft fur of the dog. "Sure, that sounds like a reasonable thing" She murmured to Alex, a soft smile on her face. She seemed fond of them, the smiles that didn't exactly reach her eyes but brightened her petite features. It was when Alex made his statement about Mingeto being stubborn that her head was thrown back and a laugh escaped. A smile that did reach her eyes escaped on her face. "Ugh, I know what you mean, Oralie just won't listen some times but I love her to death" She offered up as Mingo snorted, and then growled as if adding his own two scents to the conversation. She caught the look on Alex's face and she could feel the urge to see that look more often. It brightened his face and made her stomach do flip flops. It was a pleasant look for sure. "I don't doubt it"
Jensen sighed and gave the dog a few pats on the head. "Well, for all this trouble your going through I think after we stop at the station I'd like you to come to the pub, grab something to eat, then you and Mingeto can meet Oralie" She hoped he wouldn't refuse her, she wanted to see more of this man. The few times she had seen him before he had always been so serious and Jensen believed that this was a rare side to the man who kept the town safe.

------------------------ He did in fact not know if she meant him or Mingo, but as he watched her pet the dogs head he figured she’d been speaking to him. After all he could admit Mingo was handsome, for a dog. He smirked at Mingos confused expression when she pulled his head into a hug, something Alex never did. Luckily the Pits devotion and tolerance showed when all he did was lick at her face when she released his head and moved back. Alex glanced over at the comment about her dog, oh he knew of Mingos slight dog aggression. ”What kind of dog is Oralie?” Might as well learn something about Jensen and her life. He enjoyed her company thus far - despite it being mostly business - and Mingo seemed to adore her. He’d never seen his dog take to someone so quickly, and well the dog was a good judge of character was it not? Her comment about her dog being a bit hyper had him chuckle as he glanced down at Mingo then back to her. Oh he’d noticed she was beautiful but as she’d come on business he decided to remain somewhat formal.
”I’m sure they would have loved running around the property.” He had fifty acres for a reason, Mingo loved to run. He often took the dog for a run in the morning and evening before and after work, if only he could trust Mingo not to go after one the cop dogs. He noticed her reluctance to stand or rather leave at all and offered a soft smile in reply to her comment. The sooner they got the process started the sooner the town drunk would be behind bars. Of course he did wonder if the man had anyone to watch over his dogs while he was locked up…well time would tell. When she mentioned that Oralie too was stubborn he chuckled ”Mingo there likes to ignore me sometimes. He knows his commands, just chooses to do what he wants.”
At her comment about not doubting that Mingo could understand him he nodded ”He always has something to say about something.” Mingo glanced over at his owner and snorted. ”See.” He always took Mingos snorts in these circumstances to be his disagreeance. After all if he could - but he cant cause its rude - he’d snort whenever he disagreed with someone. When she offered that they go to the pub after the station he glanced at Mingo who seemed to give him the ‘bully grin’ and he nodded ”I think we’d like that. Mingo could use a friend in this town.” He said in a tone that meant he could use a friend in this town too. Pushing himself up he’d wait for her to stand and such before leading the way to the door and their cars. Might as well head to the police station eh?!

Alex's interest in Oralie brought a smile to Jensen's face. His question brought the black and white dog into her mind and she couldn't help but remember that morning when Oralie had gotten so excited about going outside that she ran smack dab into the wooden fence that encloses half of her property. "Oralie's a Siberian Husky, cutest and sometimes stupidest animal you have ever met" She spoke fondly of her animal and there was no mistaking the absolute love that she had for her dog. Because not only was she her companion for the past two years but she also was the last bit of her brother that she had. Without Oralie Jensen wasn't so sure how she would get by. She probably wouldn't have gotten by at all. She smiled as he spoke about them running on the property. It brought a bit of hope that Alex was expecting Jensen to be around sometimes and she wouldn't deny that it was an interesting prospect.
She chuckled at Alex's comment and couldn't help but give the dog another scratch behind the ear. "Oh yes, I know how that is" She said laughing as her hand patted the dog while he snorted at his owner. And she smiled even more when Alex mentioned that they both could use a friend or two in the town. She knew what he meant, she was just as new to town as he was, though she probably knew more about it than he did, especially when certain people got drunk and thier tongues loosened. She smiled at Alex and nodded her head, getting up to follow him outside. "Well, I'll meet you at the station then" She waved goodbye before climbing into her vehicle and backing out of the drive. She tried hard not to look in her rearview mirror to see if he was following, she knew he was.
Reaching the station she opened her door, stepped out and looked for Alex. She knew that he would be following her and she leaned back against her car after pulling out her phone and dialing her pub. After a few rings a gruff voice answered her. Hellah? She couldn't help but smile at the course voice. "Jake, it's Jensen, I'm just checking in, hows Oralie doing?" She crossed her ankles and stuck her hand into her warm coat pocket. Ah, she's fine, pubs been quiet today so she's pretty bored Jensen knew how a bored Oralie could act and she felt a twinge of guilt for leaving her with Jake, who wasn't used to dealing with a hyper dog. "Well, I'm going to be coming back in an hour or too, so don't worry about keeping her entertained for too long" She laughed softly to him. When he grunted in agreement she said a quick goodbye and clicked the phone shut, looking up to see Alex coming.
